Messi is favourite to win the World Player of the year at Monday's annual Figa Gala in Zurich.Argentine will become the third player to win the Fifa prize three times after Frenchman Zinedine Zidane and Brazil’s Ronaldo.He will also be the first player to win the Fifa accolade for three successive years after heading off Cristiano Ronaldo in 2009 and Barcelona team-mate Andres Iniesta in 2010.
Messi will become the fourth player to win the Ballon d’Or three times, after Johan Cruyff, Michel Platini and Marco van Basten, and the second to win it three years in succession after Platini – current Uefa president – in 1983, 1984 and 1985.
Real Madrid have already announced that Cristiano Ronaldo will not be attending.Ronaldo faces competition from Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Xavi for the prestigious individual trophy, while Mourinho is nominated for the title of Coach of the Year together with Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson and Barcelona's Pep Guardiola.
